The Dickerson Power Plant, operated by Mirant power company, is located just across the Potomac River from the Eastern edge of Loudoun County. It is 3.6 miles from the town of Lucketts and 7.9 miles from Ida Lee Recreation Center in Leesburg. In Lucketts VA on May 16th 2006, Loudoun civic groups (LCCSS, Progressive Action League) assembled a panel discussion on the health and environmental impacts of the coal-fired plant on Loudoun County.

The panelists cataloged the harmful effects of Dickerson's emmissions and reviewed legislative efforts to reduce emissions proven harmful to humans and the environment. Featured speakers at the March 2006 event included Virginia Delegate Joe May Eric Schaeffer, Environmental Integrity Project and Brooks Cressman, Virginia Sierra Club
